 taversity.net/sessionPop.cfm?confid=166&proposalid=16697\nOperational MDM s
hould not be designed as another isolated master hub. The stronger pattern
is to embed operational mastering inside the harmonization layer of the mod
ern data foundation, where identity, survivorship, reference alignment, rel
ationship rules, stewardship, and publication controls can operate against
governed, historized data. In practical terms, that means protecting master
-truth decisions in Silver 2 or an equivalent operational knowledge layer,
while exposing trusted outputs through APIs, events, certified data product
s, and semantic interfaces.\n\nThis session translates that recommendation
into an implementation model. It distinguishes operational MDM from analyti
cal or data-product MDM, defines what belongs in each medallion layer, desc
ribes the control components required for real-time and near-real-time mast
ering, and outlines a delivery roadmap that starts with Party, Address, and
enterprise reference data before expanding to broader relationship context
or selected transactional adjacencies. The core argument is simple. Operat
ional MDM still matters, but it should be bounded. Most consumers do not ne
ed direct write access to a central master platform. They need durable ente
rprise keys, consistent reference values, approved relationships, and easy
access to trusted outputs.\n\nReal-time operational authority should be res
erved for the narrower set of use cases where latency, workflow control, or
cross-system consistency truly justify it. Everything else should consume
mastered products, not recreate them. To make that work, the enterprise mus
t treat MDM as a semantic control plane. The semantic model defines what th
e business means. The semantic layer serves that meaning consistently acros
s SQL, APIs, metrics, and AI interfaces. Knowledge-graph or context service
s may enrich that foundation once core mastered semantics are stable. Witho
ut mastered entity authority, however, every semantic artifact drifts.&nbsp
